Nestled in the southern reaches of the Margaux appellation, Château Siran is one of Bordeaux’s oldest family estates, with a viticultural history dating back to the 17th century. Remarkably, it has been in the hands of the Miailhe family since 1859, passing down through five generations with an unwavering commitment to quality and tradition.
Located in Labarde, on a plateau of deep Garonne gravel and alluvial soils, Siran’s vineyards benefit from ideal drainage and a temperate climate, moderated by the nearby Gironde estuary. The estate’s 25 hectares under vine are planted predominantly to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with small plots of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc adding aromatic lift and structural complexity. The vines, averaging 35 years in age, are cultivated sustainably, with increasing focus on organic and biodynamic practices.
Under the stewardship of Edouard Miailhe, the château has seen a quiet renaissance in recent years. With a modernised winery and a refined approach in both vineyard and cellar, Siran has emerged as one of the most exciting and best-value properties in Margaux. Vinification is handled with precision—gravity-fed cuverie, parcel-by-parcel fermentation, and careful oak ageing, using around 35–40% new barrels—resulting in wines that express the elegance and perfume of Margaux, but with a freshness and depth all their own.
The style is silky, aromatic and classically proportioned, offering a vivid expression of place and vintage. With its fine tannins, floral lift, and restrained power, Château Siran offers a compelling alternative to its more illustrious neighbours—an insider’s Margaux with pedigree, personality, and an admirable track record for ageing.
