Meursault, Les Santenots, 1er Cru, 2023
A tiny .3ha plot made up an equal proportion of 70- and 12-year-old vines, and set to do a second winter in barrel, unlike the St. Aubin. A touch more new oak impact here, but of the dry and smoky type, with a scratched citrus oil note and a supple texture. Clearly less ready than the St Aubin, with a mid-weight, subtle character that I fully expect to grow over a second winter on the lees.
critic reviews
The 2023 Meursault Les Santenots 1er Cru has a light nose of clementine and yellow fruit, a little straight-laced compared to some of its peers. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry, with a keen thread of acidity to counter the richness that is probably a result of the late-summer heat. Candied orange peel commingles with stem ginger towards the finish. Enjoy over the next decade.
