Rully, Blanc, Clos du Chaigne, 1er Cru, 2021
Élevage was carried out exclusively in barrels in ’21, of which 20% were new. This marks a new departure for Clos du Chaigne, and a good one at that, as this feels finer and brighter than ever before. Ripe yet crisp with fine peachy fruit and a note of lime leaf. Lovely flow and weave here. Salt keeps the fruit bright. Neat crisp acids again. For all the natural flesh there’s a lovely tension too. A due east-facing vineyard on clay-dominated limestone soils.

The 2021 Rully Clos de Chaigne 1er Cru Blanc, matured in 25% new oak, has a lovely bouquet with fine delineation, much more mineralité than the Clos la Folie and apple blossom and wet limestone scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, with hints of rosewater complementing the citrus fruit and ample weight and persistence on the finish. Excellent.
