Rully, Blanc, Clos du Chaigne, 1er Cru, 2023
A little less new oak used in 2023 means this is especially expressive, with white fruits, white berries and lemon balm. Where there’s been a richness to Chaigne in the past, now this is rendered with more structure and architecture, with fruit filling the gaps. The grip and focus add to the sense of purity and drive. Quite possibly the best yet. A due east-facing vineyard on clay-dominated limestone soils.
critic reviews
The 2023 Rully Blanc Clos du Chaigne 1er Cru has less wood influence than the previous year due to a different type of charring to the barrels with lower heat. It has a forward and vigorous bouquet with patisserie and light peach skin scents. There is more aromatic presence than the Clos la Folie. Quite spicy and phenolic, the palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity and a persistent finish. This has great potential.
