(from the village portion of this lieu-dit, planted between 1934 and 1947 on rocky clay soil; the Ligniers purchased this vineyard in 2009; just 17 hectoliters per hectare produced in 2014 due to the June 28 hail): Full, dark red. Sexy aromas of raspberry, brown spices, wild herbs and earth. Concentrated, sweet red fruit flavors show good stuffing. Finishes with chewy, slightly rustic tannins. (Laurent Lignier told me he picked this fruit too early at the beginning, but now he harvests at the same time as his vineyards on the Côte de Nuits; in fact, he added, he's now the last to pick in Pommard. )
The 2014 Pommard les Chanlins Village, which Laurent Lignier bought with a cousin of the family, has a tightly wound bouquet, stoic and tight-lipped at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well judged acidity and sappy red berry fruit tinged with dried orange peel towards the finish. This is a lovely little Pommard from Laurent.
