    Marquis d'Angerville, Meursault, Santenots, 1er Cru, 2020

Taut Meursault offering, vivid, crunchy salted lime rind fruit. Tense but without being austere, thanks to a background glow of sunny yellow fruit. There is lots of dry extract here, adding grip to the tension. On the Volnay side of Meursault, in fact, were it planted with Pinot Noir this wine would carry the Volnay name, where the soils are of marne clay and give a strong mineral identity to the wine.

The 2020 Meursault Santenots 1er Cru was very primal and leesy on the nose, grapefruit, camomile and kiwi fruit scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, pear and gooseberry on the entry, cutting acidity with a straightforward, lightly spiced finish. Maybe just a little conservative, but this is well-crafted.
