Nuits St Georges, Aux Murgers, 1er Cru, 2023
Backward but deep. Earthy mineral notes along with dark smooth fruit. Great freshness but this needs time. A little brooding, though it’s well-proportioned, has energy and shows great potential. A vineyard on the northern (Vosne) side of the Nuits appellation that yields similarly silky wines to that of its neighbour. The vines were planted in 1965 and 1972 so produce intense concentrated wines that need plenty of élevage in new oak barriques and then bottle age to reveal their complexity. Aged in 50% new oak barrels and de-stemmed.
critic reviews
The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet, with dried rose petal scents and hints of orange blossom that tincture red berry fruit. This has more complexity compared to the Les Boudots. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannins. With hints of graphite, black cherries and an almost Morey-like finish in terms of structure, I can see this aging well in bottle.
