2023 Vintage
Young, talented and much in demand, Pierre - Vincent Girardin is a riding a wave of popularity at the moment. With an enviable collection of vineyards at his disposal and a knack for turning out intense, taut and mineral whites and high-toned floral reds, it is no surprise that people are paying attention. The philosophy here is a standardised approach to winemaking, to let each site speak. For whites that is exclusively double sized barrels, full lees taken to barrel, no battonage, then 12 months in barrel followed by 10 months in tank. The reds are entirely whole bunch fermented, handled very carefully in the vats with no punch downs or pump overs, and aged in very low to no toast barrels for up to 12 months. An advocate for much higher than average canopies - to speed photosynthesis and thus hasten ripening - he’s able to pick early; in 2023 he began his white harvest on 24th August, with just Leroy and Leflaive ahead of him. These are excellent wines, from reference point vineyards. Burgundy has a new star in its midst.
