Gevrey-Chambertin, 2023
justerini & brooks tasting note
Crunchy primary freshness defines the Gevrey villages as we move from the Haut Côtes wines. A seam of mineral firmness zipping up the core, with crunchy purple fruit and supple melting tannins that carry you through to the easy, balanced finish. The fruit for this cuvée hails from a single parcel called Champs Francs, situated to the east of Gevrey.

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, matured in 55% new oak, has an effervescent bouquet of red fruit, orange zest and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky entry. Quite plush for a Gevrey, perhaps this is one where I might just dial down the new oak a tad. This is a precocious and attractive Gevrey, but it will need two or three years to soak up the wood.
