Clos Saint-Fiacre is a family-run estate in Mareau-aux-Prés, in the Orléanais, where the Montigny-Piel family has cultivated vines since 1635. Today, Bénédicte and Hubert Piel oversee the 13-hectare estate, which produces wines under the AOC Orléans and AOC Orléans-Cléry appellations from vineyards situated between the Loire and Sologne. The vineyards occupy a diverse mix of sandy-gravelly soils over limestone, sandy-clay and clay-limestone, with much of the vineyard planted at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare. The family takes a traditional and environmentally respectful approach to viticulture, with grass cover and careful manual vineyard work aimed at achieving optimum ripeness while preserving the expression of the terroir. In the cellar, the domaine follows a deliberately low-intervention philosophy, using few or no added sulphites and avoiding corrective practices such as acidification, deacidification, added tannins and enzymes. The red wines are neither fined nor filtered, while the whites receive only a light earth filtration. The range includes Chardonnay-based Orléans whites alongside reds and rosés principally made from Pinot Meunier with Pinot Noir, offering an intriguing expression of one of the Loire Valley’s lesser-known wine appellations,
