In 1954, renowned wine producer Egon Müller expanded his portfolio by acquiring 50% of the prestigious Gallais estate in Wiltingen. Originally owned by the Gallais family from Brittany, co-founders of the Arbed steelworks in Saarland, this historic estate boasted 2.5 hectares of prime vineyard land in the renowned Wiltinger Brauner Kupp, exclusively planted with Riesling grapes. In 1992, Müller further enhanced the estate by personally purchasing an additional two hectares in this top-rated vineyard, marketing the wines under the highly regarded Le Gallais label.
The Riesling wines from Le Gallais are known for their refined elegance and rich, opulent fruit flavours. Although they may not be on the same level as the celebrated Scharzhofberg wines, in certain vintages, Le Gallais Rieslings can surpass expectations with their exceptional richness and depth. It is important to note that Le Gallais operates as an independent estate, with its wines standing apart as premium products, not as a secondary label.
