Barolo, Bricco Viole, 2018

10 cases, 1 bottle
£32.92 per bottle

Tasting Note:

A darker, richer warmer style than the more La Morra-style regular Barolo, spicier and with less red fruit. An extremely successful Bricco Viole - juicy fresh and round dark berry fruits, infused with earth sweet spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. There is a nice feel and weight to this, assured and fluid with excellent, unforced complexity. One of the most balanced examples of this we have tasted. Bricco Viole is a very fine Barolo vineyard that translates as ‘Top of the Violet Hill’ and is one of highest vineyards in the Barolo commune region, 400–450 metres above sea level. Marco's windy, exposed parcel is blessed with a fair chunk of 50-70-year-old vines. It is a late-ripening vineyard that produces small intense berries. The ageing is the same as for Brunate, 24 months in barriques, with a 25% new oak.
