Tasting Note:

There have been many great Brunates from Marengo over the years, it seems that every year the quality bar is raised and the style just becomes more and more refined. 2007 is his greatest effort yet. This mixes the “Brunate” power, sultry earthiness and spice with a beautiful and very clear red fruit character in the Burgundian mould, wonderful and truly uplifting flavours of juicy wild strawberries, red cherry, bullace, dried flower, Victoria plum and wineberry together with notes of earth, deep minerals and cinnamon. Sheer pleasure. One of the top Cru vineyards of Barolo, situated high up in the La Morra commune, a touch more new oak is used for this (40%) than the Bricco Viole because of the extra power of the Brunate wines; however, the extra influence of oak on the flavour itself is minimal.
