Asti, or Asti Spumante as it was formerly known, is a sweet, sparkling wine made in northern Italy from Moscato grapes. Historically, Asti was drank during the middle of the day by vineyard workers as a refreshing beverage, but now the world is enamoured with its gentle aromatics, soft bubbles and flavoursome profile. Asti DOCG covers 4, distinct styles of wine including Moscato d´Asti, Asti, Asti Metodo Classico and Vendemmia Tardiva. Whilst most of Asti is made in volume by large producers, artisanal Asti is making a come-back, with some truly exceptional examples now being produced.
