Barolo, 2019
Brilliant, vivid flavours, light on its feet, pure and clear yet with great length of flavour. There is a distinctively La Morra character to this, ethereal red berry fruits and fresh herbs, gentle notes of spice and sweet juicy strawberries. A stunningly elegant ‘regular’ Barolo that is a blend of wine from Crus vineyards predominanty in La Morra including Coera, Roncaglie, Boiolo and Fossati. The wine is aged for 24 months in 20% new oak barriques.
critic reviews
The 2019 Barolo shows medium-dark concentration with a bouquet that includes interesting notes of dried flower, bramble, crushed stone, pomegranate and redcurrant. I notice that this vintage from the Marengo family, with their modern boutique winery just outside the town of La Morra, is a richer, bigger wine in 2019. It will require a few more years of bottle age for sure. The fruit used is a blend from the four vineyard sites farmed by this family in La Morra. Production is 10,000 bottles.
The 2019 Barolo is a perplexing wine. Strong vegetal notes and harsh, angular contours make for a Barolo that, unfortunately does not offer much pleasure.
