Barolo Bric dël Fiasc [Library Release 2026], 2011
Spicier and bigger than the other Scavino Crus, less compact than usual and more expansive and expressive than the Cannubi. Good clear but sweet fruit flavours, notes of red berry, cherry and wild strawberry with strong underlying earthy, dark and spicy characteristics that form the wine's core. This has everything, tannic spine, sweet and savoury notes, depth and high toned fruit. There is a certain richness but no evidence of too much heat, in fact there is an appetising freshness to this. Bric dël Fiasc is Piedmontese dialect for Bricco Fiasco, the top of the Fiasco vineyard. Situated at 280 metres above sea level in Castiglione Falleto, this is one of the great Crus of the region that makes powerful but classy, age worthy wines. It was the first single vineyard bottling Scavino released starting from the 1978 vintage.
critic reviews
The flagship 2011 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is the wine that seems to have suffered the most from its recent bottling. The signature mineral/ferrous notes are present, but the wine hasn't fully come together in bottle. At this stage, the 2011 is quite reticent, especially compared to how it showed from tank prior to bottling, but I am not at all concerned given the wine's brilliant track record and this site's history for producing tannic, ageworthy Barolos. Today, though, there is not a lot of vintage 2011 sexiness.
