Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great, historic names of Italian wine, rivalled only by the wines of Barolo and Chianti in global consciousness. Produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso, the warmer climate of Brunello di Montalcino allows for these thick-skinned clones of Sangiovese to fully ripen. The result are structured, powerful wines that can age gracefully for decades, showcasing the earthiness and herbal character of Sangiovese at its best. Some of the most famous producers in Italy, Poggio di Sotto and Le Ragnaie for example, have made their names known throughout the world through their vineyards on the slopes of Montalcino.
