Rutherford

One of the great Napa Valley AVAs, known for lending its wines a distinctive ‘Rutherford Dust’ aroma, a term coined by the great Andre Tchelistcheff. The afternoon sun allows for some wonderful Cabernet to be grown here. Situated about halfway up the valley, Rutherford covers around six square miles, between the east facing Vaca range and the Mayacamas mountains on the valley’s western edge. The Alluvial fans here are primarily gravelly, loamy and sandy, and are particularly well drained.
