Philipponnat has been the cornerstone of our Champagne portfolio for years. Their wines grace some of the finest restaurant tables in the country and their top wines are sought out by private collectors all over the world. As one would hope and expect, though, their NV range, (formerly known as Royal Reserve) is the bellwether for the entire portfolio, offering a supreme mix of quality and affordability, owing in no small part to the considerable reserve wines that are used to create the blend.

Now renamed Réserve Perpétuelle and Philipponnat Brut, Rosé, the NV range sport newly fashioned labels. As such we’re releasing the last of our old-label Royal Réserve magnum stock at an unmissable summer price – with the Royal Réserve, NV, Non-Dosé now at just £165 per 3 IB (was £248) and the Royal Réserve, NV, Rosé at £195 per 3 IB (was £294.50). Philipponnat’s Royale Réserve bottlings offer up the signature Philipponnat traits of power and vibrancy – the perfect introduction to the house style. Both Brut and Non Dosé cuvées are a blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay with up to a third of the blend made up of ‘perpetual reserve’ wines, the subject of much recent innovation at Philipponnat. The Non Dosé is one of the best we’ve come across, wonderfully defined flavours on the nose, clear and lively, with tension, verve and crisply set, steely fruit flavours. Pleasingly there’s no austerity here, just an extra sense of cut and clarity over the Brut. A wine of wonderful purity. Dosage 0 grams.

Royale Réserve Rosé is a complex, subtle bottle of rosé where the red wine component, generally 7-8% of the blend, comes from the upper sections of the Clos des Goisses vineyard. With up to 30% reserve wines, again from the new two stage perpetual reserve system and a dosage of 9 grams per litre, this is a rosé that is onion peel in colour, complex in flavour with a fine bead and lovely transparency of flavours. This has all the interest and complexity to work really well with food, but also the balance to make a very fine aperitif.
