When the Port Ellen distillery closed in 1983, no-one knew that the whisky stores in its white-walled confines would age quite so exquisitely. With stocks diminishing, Port Ellen is judged to be among the finest and rarest of all single malt Scotch whiskies being released.

In 1983, the small Brora distillery in Sutherland also closed its doors as demand fell away. For years, maturing stocks of its single malt sat in the warehouse, waiting to be discovered. Once found, demand for this legendary single malt, produced over just a fifteen-year span, has increased immeasurably.

Designed by local man Donald Mackay, the distillery took its name from the Conval Hills. After a fire in 1909, Convalmore was rebuilt only to fall silent in 1985. The whisky is known to have a sweet starting, maritime style with a characteristic lingering, smoky finish.

Pittyvaich was one of the shortest lived distilleries in Speyside, closing due to industry restructuring. This single malt has never been widely available, but has proven to age well; none younger than 25 years of age remains.
