Château Quinault L'Enclos, St Emilion Grand Cru, 2020

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

“The colour grows with purple reflections. The nose expresses a lovely black, ripe fruitiness where balsamic and tobacco notes mingle with a liquorice freshness. The ample and fruity attack continues on a tender mid-palate of medium constitution. The tannins then gradually tighten up and firm up the texture in the mouth. 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc.” - Chateau note.

critic reviews

89/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Quinault L'Enclos feels a bit overripe on the nose with fig- and date-infused black fruit. It's rather glossy and missing some complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and quite oaky with ripe tannins. It's a powerful and burly Right Bank that leans more toward a hedonistic style but doesn't quite have the finesse to pull it off. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2020 Quinault l'Enclos offers up aromas of cherries, plums and crushed mint, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and lively palate built around powdery tannins that somewhat temper this site's proclivity for an overt, even obvious, expression of fruit.

A blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Quinault L’Enclos has a deep garnet-purple color. It comes bounding out of the glass with eager-to-please notes of baked black cherries, boysenberry preserves, and fruitcake, followed by hints of Indian spices, vanilla pod, and chocolate box. The medium to full-bodied palate is coated with seductive black fruit preserves, framed by silky, well-managed tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.

93/100Jane Anson,Inside Bordeaux

Loaded with energy and grip, majoring on black pepper, damson and black cherry fruit. The tannins remain austere at this point, pretty serious and closed down, with waves of espresso and violet promising more to come over the next decade. Pierre Lurton director of this 19ha estate, Pierre-Olivier Clouet technical director. Harvest September 3 to 23, an upscore from En Primeur.
