    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

From the single vineyard Altenbourg, the soils here are primarily marl and limestone, in contrast to the Schlossberg's granite. A blend of two plots, both southwest facing, one is 60 years old and the other is 20 years old, and was planted as a massale selection from Pommard's fabled Clos des Epenots.

The pristine 2021 Pinot Noir Altenbourg opens with subtle toast and vanilla, pomegranate and a touch of smoke. The palate is peppery, sinuous and slender, framed with fine tannin. It’s elegant and gentle yet concentrated, with aromatic and expressive red fruit captured at a lovely intersection of ripeness and brightness. Very fine texture combines smooth grip with limestone expansiveness, so elegant. Vivid notions of tart berry fruit sing through the finish. (Bone-dry)
