    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

We have consistently rated this as one of our top Sauternes/Barsac over the last few years and remain flummoxed by its relative lack of recognition versus that of its peers. The 2022 does not disappoint and delivers all that we love about Doisy Védrines - its freshness and drinkability, allied to sufficient concentration and complexity. Sauternes can all too easily be unbalanced and cloying - sweetness and viscosity trumping harmony and complexity. Well by these latter two metrics, this was one of the very finest sweeties we tasted in 2022: The layered apricot richness and depth, alluring floral wild honey smoothness and zesty citrus freshness combine seamlessly to deliver something sophisticated yet easy to enjoy, a cleansing finish washing away the well-judged mid palate concentration. A Barsac designed for pleasure with the equilibrium to age gracefully. The result of 4 tries through the vineyard, yielding super ripe and healthy grapes

The 2022 Doisy-Vedrines is a blend of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Pale to medium straw in color, it sashays out of the glass with drop-dead gorgeous notes of lemon drops, lime blossom, mandarin peel, and fresh pineapple, plus underlying suggestions of chalk dust and coriander seed. The palate is super intense, with wonderful tension cutting through the citrus and spice layers, finishing with fantastic length.

Intense sunflower colour, with fig and dried apricot on the nose. The Castéja family have teased impressive freshness out of the richness of this wine, giving edges of lime zest to the silky, concentrated fruits and textures which are found in all the sweet wines in 2022. Harvest October 2 to 28, 4 selections, 8hl/h. There was no production in 2021 on this wine after the frost. Tasted twice.

The 2022 Doisy-Védrines has a backward nose at the moment, though with coaxing, there are light honeysuckle, quince and dried honey scents. The palate is viscous on the entry with its signature weight and girth that fills the mouth. Good tension, not quite as persistent as the Doisy-Daëne at the moment, though it should fill out by the time of bottling.
