Bahans Haut Brion, Pessac Léognan, 2006
Pretty nose, elegant and rich in red fruit; tannins markedly softer than in Chapelle de la Mission, black fruit, very ripe, almost jammy, with a hint of espresso to give an edge. Rich and pure on the palate, silky tannins, long and sweet on finish. Very good indeed. A blend of 34% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, from yields of 43hl/ha.
critic reviews
Tasted blind at Farr Vintners' 2006 horizontal, the 2006 Bahans-Haut-Brion has a fragrant earthy, woodland, almost autumnal bouquet that is well defined and fully mature. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, lightweight perhaps but with a keen thread of acidity, attenuated slightly towards the finish. Drink sooner rather than later would be my advice. Tasted April 2016.
Good deep red. Black raspberry, sassafras, road tar and spicy oak on the nose. Sweet berry fruit shows an almost liqueur-like creaminess, but a peppery element and good underlying minerality lend grip to the finish, which features a fine dusting of tannins and nice cedary persistence. An excellent second wine.
