Château La Fleur Pétrus, Pomerol, 2025

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

The original estate is a little over 9 hectares and is situated next to, you guessed it, Chateau Lafleur and Petrus. This terroir is unsurprisingly capable of producing exquisite wines. Now, the vines from Chateau Providence and a new parcel situated between Le Pin and Trotanoy (formally called Chateau Guillot) have swelled the estate to 18 hectares, making this the largest property on the plateau. A long-time J&B favourite, the 2025 iteration is everything you want from a Pomerol. Opening with a wonderfully floral bouquet of fresh cherries, summer fruits and jasmine, this is a detailed and finely-wrought La Fleur Petrus. The palate is sleek and vibrant, awash with crunchy berries, mineral-infused plum, integrated with a fine oak spice and notes of liquorice and tilled earth. This feels very complete, long and powerful with an intense web of fine-grained tannins. Stunning.

The 2025 La Fleur-Pétrus was picked September 1 to 19 and matured in 50% new oak. This was another sample that demanded aeration to remove a bit of reduction on the nose. Enticing raspberry, wild strawberry and touches of leather unfurl on the nose, certainly on the more elegant side. The palate is well balanced, with lithe tannins, well judged acidity, very harmonious, with an almost "sleek" finish that just glides. Very seductive Pomerol in the making.

Concentrated and impressive, with mid palate expansion, and tannins that show muscle, sinew and juice. This opens in the glass, blossoming to show wonderful fragrant peony and iris flower, toasted spice, olive pit, oyster shell, wet stones, pumice, liquorice root, so much possibility and breadth here. Harvest September 1 to 19. 50% new oak for ageing.

Along with Trotanoy, the 2025 La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the more powerful, massive wines in the Mouiex portfolio this year. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet dark fruits, black truffle and a deft touch of new oak, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with ripe, polished tannins despite its power, good energy and a seamless, integrated profile.
