critic reviews
Deep garnet-purple colored. Rolls out with ready-to-go notes of raspberry preserves and kirsch, giving way to an undercurrent of lavender oil, dried mint, and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate is plush and juicy with plenty of pure red fruit flavors and a spicy lift on the finish.
The 2024 Lafleur-Gazin has a slightly herbaceous, what you might describe as "old school" bouquet and as much as I can criticize that…you know, it has charm and that intangible attribute of honesty. It is what it is. The palate is medium-bodied and cut from a different cloth to the nose, displaying more fruit intensity and weight than expected. Lightly spiced with white pepper towards the finish, it actually finishes with a little chutzpah. I am intrigued to see how this will develop in bottle.
Well handled, this has clear toasted oak, grilled cedar, cocoa bean, aromatics that lend the gourmet touches that are not always easy to find in 2024. Things get a little more austere on the close of play, with fresh acidities but juicy and enjoyable, soft finish. 50% new oak. Harvest 17 to 28 September.
Aromas of dark berries, petroleum jelly and a hint of bell pepper introduce the 2024 Lafleur-Gazin, a medium-bodied, lively and youthfully stringy young Pomerol.
