Château Lafleur Gazin, Pomerol, 2025
Lafleur Gazin has become a perennial favourite of ours. Situated auspiciously between Gazin and La Fleur Petrus, recent vintages under the Moueix family have demonstrated more refined tannic structure and better purity of fruit. You'll be hard pressed to find a better Pomerol for the money. The 2025 is packed with glossy, bright damsons. Very high-toned and mineral - there's a lovely tension and energy coursing through the fruit, finishing with chalky tannins, a touch of spice and a beautiful salinity.
critic reviews
The 2025 Lafleur-Gazin was picked 1 to 13 September and aged in 50% new oak. It has a pretty nose with brambly red fruit, though not complex. Nice definition. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, dark berry fruit laced with light mocha notes, not powerful, but there is fluidity on the finish. One of the earlier-drinking Pomerol wines.
Juicy black fruits, mandarin peel and liquorice root, poise and personality, sidesteps the tart grip of the vintage by layering it with cassis and spice, and will further soften over ageing. Its track record suggests you can rest easy for this to resolve over ageing. Harvest September 1 to 13. 50% new oak
The 2025 Lafleur-Gazin shows promise, wafting from the glass with notes of minty cherries, cassis and licorice, followed by a medium- to full-bodied, polished and charming palate that's fleshy, seamless and already nicely integrated.
