Château Les Ormes de Pez, St Estèphe, 2024
Wild floral aromas mixed with bilberries; nice aromatic fruit framed by some chalky tannins. This feels well measured and honest. Composed of 48% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
critic reviews
Deep garnet-purple colored. Jumps from the glass with spritely notes of crushed blackberries and raspberries, plus hints of fruit cake, hoisin, and tobacco leaf. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft and lightly chewy with just enough berry preserves flavors and a lifted finish.
The 2024 Ormes de Pez has a crisp, tensile bouquet with black olive tapenade infusing black fruit, fine delineation and nicely integrated oak. The medium-bodied palate showcases grainy tannins and a core of black fruit laced with graphite and tobacco, leading to a slightly smudged finish that lacks the complexity of the 2022. Still, this is a decent Saint-Estèphe.
Bright and vivid blue fruit character, high in acidity but delivered as juice and lift, this has lovely cocoa bean and smoked earth notes as it builds. A classically balanced if austere Ormes. 32hl/h yields, 3.61 pH. 45% new oak for ageing.
Offering up discreet hints of berry fruit framed by toasty oak, the 2024 Ormes de Pez is medium-bodied, taut and angular.
