The 2012 Meyney is medium to deep garnet colored. It has a mature nose of prunes, spice cake, and dried cherries with wafts of tobacco, menthol, and new leather. The medium-bodied palate has compelling freshness if a little thin on fruit, framed by chewy tannins and finishing a tad short.

The 2012 Meyney offers mainly red fruit on the nose laced with soy and peppery notes, moderate in terms of complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite structured with good weight, though it is missing some precision towards the finish that feels a tad bitter. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

This estate is quickly returning from a long period of mediocrity. This sleeper of the vintage exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to copious notes of black raspberries, blueberries, loamy soil and roasted Provencal herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it should drink well for 10-12+ years.
