Château Phélan Ségur, St Estèphe, 2008
60% Cabernet, 40% Merlot, 43hl/ha. The 2008 Phelan Segur has a perfumed boquet of flowers, blueberries and high tones sweet red berries. The palate is tight knit with good concentration and layer after layer of sweet blue fruits. Although this gives the impression of a forward, modern St Estephe, there is plenty of structure. The tannins are round and mouthcoating which sujests that this will age gracefully. One is left with very suave, sweet compote flavours that are long and clean.

The 2008 Phelan Segur is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Medium to deep garnet-brick colored, it comes bounding out with exuberant notes of creme de cassis, stewed black plums, and sauteed herbs, plus suggestions of mossy tree bark, tapenade, and truffles. The medium-bodied palate has a rock-solid structure of grainy tannins and bold freshness to support the muscular fruit, finishing long and lifted.
The 2008 Phélan Segur has a simple bouquet with blackberry, redcurrant, freshly tilled soils and woodland scents that seem to gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, a little dry in the mouth with a simple blackcurrant pastille and cedar finish. I wine easy to like but difficult to really love.
