Château Picque Caillou Blanc, Pessac Léognan, 2019
A blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon picked between the 29th August and 11th September. Despite the additional Sauvignon in the blend, this varietal character doesn’t dominate. Notes of melon, lemon grass, waxed lemons and stones. There’s a lovely texture here, with enough density and mouth coating citrus fruit, yet without any sense of weight. Fragrant and ever so vibrant, one is left with a beautiful saline finish of limes and flowers. As ever, this puts many a big name in the shade.
critic reviews
Picque-Caillou's 2019 Blanc bursts with aromas of gooseberry, passionfruit, green mango and lemon grass. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and generous, with a satiny attack, succulent acids and a nicely defined finish, it's a clean, precise, Sauvignon-driven Bordeaux blanc in the contemporary style.
The 2019 Picque Caillou Blanc offers light grass clippings and Granny Smith apple on the nose, a faint gravel scent in the background. The palate is taut and fresh with Clementine and lemon zest, moderate weight and length. Shows decent persistency.
