Château Rauzan Ségla, 2ème Cru Classé, Margaux, 2010
We try to taste every wine at least twice - just to be sure. We tasted Rauzan Segla on four separate occasions and each time we were thrilled (and gave consistent notes!). This Chanel owned property is back on tip top form. One of the outstanding successes from the Margaux commune, Rauzan Segla has produced a spellbinding 2010. It is built along the same lines as the exquisite 2010 Chateau Margaux - a classically beautiful fragrant bouquet of flowers, high toned minerals and cabernet fruit. The palate is packed with lacy red and black cherry fruit and fruit stones; pure and seductive with tremendous length and velvety, ripe tannins. A consummate Rauzan.

This is classy, reserved, unrolls slowly but surely through the palate, with cassis bud, rosemary, espresso and slate. One of the more closed wines in the lineup, this could do with a few more years. John Kolasa director, 50% new oak for ageing, 37hl/h yield.
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2010 Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet-colored. After a little swirling, a gorgeous perfume of rose oil, star anise, fragrant soil, and kirsch slowly emerges, followed by suggestions of blackcurrant pastilles, tar, and black truffles. The medium-bodied palate is jam-packed with dense black fruit preserves and earthy layers, supported by super-firm, ripe, grainy tannins and amazing tension, finishing with epic length. Stunning!
The 2010 Rauzan-Ségla has a wonderful bouquet, very pure and engaging with wild strawberry, blackberry, rose petals and boysenberry jam. It just feels very focused and beautifully delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with lively red and black fruit laced with cracked black pepper and cedar. It is extremely balanced, almost symmetrical, with a precise and persistent finish. Bon vin.
