Ségla, Margaux, 2017
The 2017 Segla is refreshing and aromatic example of Rauzan Segla’s second wine. Quite expressive with lots of hedgerow fruit and cassis mingled with cut flowers and herbs, leading to a medium bodied palate of pure cherry and blackcurrant fruit. There’s nice edge to this fruit, bright, vivid and crunchy, supported by well-judged tannins. Perfect for drinking now and over the next five years.
critic reviews
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Segla sings of warm black cherries, blackberry pie and wild blueberries with hints of redcurrant jelly and black tea. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with straightforward red and black berry flavors with a soft texture and well-poised finish.
The 2017 Ségla has a deep purple core. The bouquet is very perfumed with red berry fruit laced with incense and potpourri aromas, just very faint metallic scents that dissipate with aeration and are replaced by marine/estuarine aromas (seaweed and brine). The palate is medium-bodied with good concentration for a Deuxième Vin: assertive blue and black fruit with a citric line of acidity. It needs a little more cohesion on the finish but that will come with 24-36 months of bottle age.
