As we have stated in our vintage overview, this is not the most homogenous vintage, particularly for many of the less expensive wines. However, if you look closely, (and we did at literally hundreds), you can discover some great value wines for short to medium term drinking. This is not strictly speaking a second wine from Clos de Quatre Vents. The Clos, as it suggests comes from a unique terroir; the Villa is produced from a 1.5 hectare parcel near to Soussans. It is crafted with the same care and attention as its grander stable-mate by superstar oenologist, Eric Boissenot and Luc Thienpont. Beautifully perfumed bouquet with hints of liqueur fruit, cut daisies, gravel, vanilla, cedar and black fruit pastels. The palate is tight knit and serious. The attack is packed with sweet red and black berries and possesses really persistent flavours. This is a serious and complete Margaux; svelte and elegant with seductive tannins and a charm that makes it already approachable. It’s also one of the best value for money buys from the 2009 campaign. Alas, there will only be around 700 cases produced.
