La Chenade, Lalande de Pomerol, 2024

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Initially fresh and floral, the bouquet offers inviting aromas of griotte cherry and crème de mûre, layered with nuances of forest floor, graphite, mocha, and dried flowers. The palate is quite vibrant, showing hints of bilberries alongside hedgerow fruit and a stony minerality. It finishes with well-judged tannins and subtle notes of flint and damp soil. While not possessing the sophistication of Cruzelles, La Chenade promises to be a really pleasing and good value early drinker. 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Notes of fresh black and red plums and wild strawberries spill from the glass, followed by hints of damp soil and black pepper. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft with black and red berry flavors with soft acidity and a peppery finish.

The 2024 La Chenade was picked on September 22 and September 28 for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc, respectively. It then matured in 52% new oak. Lovely blueberry and violet scents blossom on the nose, fresh and seductive in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, gentle grip, fine backbone and a subtle graphite note on the finish. This will be difficult to resist from the get-go.

Redcurrant, blueberry and white pepper, with gentle earthy notes. Less 'Pomerol-adjacent' than in some vintages, but this has charm, and a sense of precision and lift, 35hl/h yield after hail. No chaptilisation, harvest September 22 to 28, 57% new oak.

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 La Chenade offers up aromas of pepper, pencil shavings, dark berries and licorice. Medium-bodied, structured and firm, it's layered with a good chassis of tannins built around tangy acids, concluding with a grippy, short finish.
