Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Providence, Pomerol, 2010

Providence is one of the few genuine Chateaux in Pomerol. Situated in the heart of the Pomerol Plateau, Providence has been part of the JP Moueix portfolio since 2005. The estate has benefited greatly from new investment and has rapidly become an established name. Quite a restrained bouquet of morello cherries, liquorice, dark chocolate, earth and bright red fruits. The palate is packed with clear, suave, berry fruit, mulberries and plums but with an intensely mineral streak underneath. The firm, powerful tannins and refreshing acidity are in perfect harmony. This is an exotic Providence in an understated way. Delicious.

Neal Martin, Vinous

The 2010 Providence has plenty of ripe, almost over-ripe Merlot on the nose, smudged red fruit, maraschino cherries and cassis emerging with time. The palate is fleshy and ripe on the entry, smooth and lightly spiced, hints of Hoi Sin and cloves towards the edgy finish and graphite lingering on the aftertaste. This is a fascinating Right Bank wine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

Providence

Providence

This was a brand new wine in 2005, and promises to become an important fixture within Pomerol; a sizeable château that sits at the very centre of the plâteau, opposite the mairie and surrounded by other big name châteaux like Hosanna, Certan de May and Lafleur. From 2006 it includes one or two new, small parcels of old vine merlot, bringing the total surface area of the vineyard to 4ha. (NB - UK sales only.)
