Bourgogne Rouge is a term given to a red wine made in Burgundy, made from a any of the 300 or so communes, and exclusively from Pinot Noir. It´s often considered to be a stepping stone to grander wines in Burgundy though, increasingly, many producers are putting serious effort into these entry-level wines and in some cases, the wines are actually declassified expressions of grander terroirs. Bachelet Monnot, Château de Marsannay and Château de Meursault are examples of producers making Bourgogne Rouge to rival some of the more expensive names in Burgundy, with top site selection and careful wine-making practices.
