Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, 2010
A fine parcel of Bâtard, just under the wall on the Puligny side of Le Montrachet near Pierre Morey’s vines. This is prime sited Bâtard that produces wines that are much less heavy and foursquare than examples from the lower Chassagne side. An excellent wine. There is true, broad-shouldered Bâtard power on show here with a Chevalier-like precision. A strong, ripe fruited but highly mineral wine; crystal-clear flavours of rock salt, lime, roasted nut, dry stones and citrus rind.
critic reviews
Bright straw-yellow. Very ripe but youthfully subdued nose offers scents of fresh apricot, clove and linden tea. Dense, ripe and extremely rich, showing a Montrachet-like iodiney aspect. Silky in texture but with racy acidity giving the mid-palate superb cut. Finishes with a menthol element, great energy and a tannic quality. The combination of plush texture, saline minerality and bracing acidity suggest that this baby will benefit from eight to ten years of cellaring.
