Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, 2023
Very juicy if even more closed than the Folatieres. Nonetheless this has all of the body, depth and stature you could hope for. Broad and brooding, exhibiting complex and deep flavours of roasted nut, butter and acacia with an underlying earthy, rocky minerality, garlanded by a citrusy freshness. This opens slowly and gradually but there is huge latent power. Massive length of flavour suggests this wine has great promise. A fine parcel of Bâtard on the Puligny side of the vineyard near Pierre Morey's vines, abutting Montrachet.
critic reviews
The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru was raised in two used barrels this year and underwent a slightly longer alcoholic fermentation. It has an engaging bouquet with touches of aniseed infusing the intense citrus fruit. Wonderful mineralité and drive enhance the aromatics. The palate is lightly spiced on the entry with fine weight and depth. Sapid citrus fruit and touches of walnut and oyster shell build through the finish, completing what is a seriously impressive Bâtard-Montrachet.
