Puligny-Montrachet, 2016
Stunning, classic pure Puligny. A lovely fine shape, demure and gently curvy with a fine mineral tension. Notes of citrus rind and lemon blossom, a dash of butter and honeysuckle. Very high quality village. From a fine plot on a slope called les Meix, near the Grands Crus, next to Enseigneurs.
critic reviews
(just a bit of frost here ): Bright, medium straw-yellow. Riper and fruitier on the nose than the village Chassagne, showing a touch of reduction but conveying a more balanced, sedate impression. Rather rich yet firm stone fruit and quince flavors are accented by a pungent mineral quality and nicely framed by well-integrated acidity. A concentrated, balanced midweight with slowly rising perfume, this wine avoids the element of hardness shown by the Chassagne-Montrachet. Should make an excellent village wine.
The 2016 Puligny Montrachet Village was not affected by frost at all. Strangely, I actually prefer the Chassagne-Montrachet Village on the nose, which was touched by frost. This just feels rather austere and aloof at the moment. The palate is better with crisp acidity, fine tension and an almost clinical, focused finish. Maybe what it just misses is some personality or character, and that may well develop with one or two years in bottle.
