Gevrey Chambertin, Clos du Fonteny, 1er Cru, 2024
Summer pudding, raspberry and an aromatic whole bunch fragrance, dried flowers, some creamy raspberry. On the lighter more lifted side, with a leaning to orange and raspberry fruit and more stark minerality than the Petit Chapelle before. A slightly North facing Gevrey 1er Cru, influenced by the cooling combe. The vines produce tiny millerande berries every year, making for deep, dark fresh wines.
critic reviews
The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru comes from a naturally low-yielding parcel in more benevolent years, though in this vintage there are just one and a half barrels. It has quite an effervescent bouquet with blood orange infusing the red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little confit-like with a zesty damson-tinged finish. Lovely.
