Chapelle Chambertin, Grand Cru, 2017
Burly and deep. Very much a Gevrey Grand Cru with a little “Vosne” gloss. Dense and deep dark fruit with a cooling, earthy dimension. Polished and with a little chew and bite to the mid palate. Closed, solid but layered, this will need time to unravel and needs time. There is plenty more to come from this. Cecile has a mere 0.4ha of fifty year-old vines in Chapelle, a shame as hers is one of the finest examples of this lesser-known Grand Cru that you will find. Aged for 18 months in three quarters new oak barrels.
critic reviews
The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has around 80% whole bunches this year. It has a very perfumed bouquet of raspberry, crushed strawberry, vanilla pod and a touch of iodine, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black and red fruit, perhaps not as complex as the Echézeaux, and a touch of brown spice surfaces toward the finish. Very fine.
