Gevrey Chambertin, Champeaux, 1er Cru, 2008
Deeper and richer than the standard 1er Cru blend, and what wonderful texture too, power and elegance are working in tandem here, crushed creamy fruit flavours and velvety tannins, notes of summer pudding, bramble and plums. Extremely complex yet refined Gevrey
critic reviews
The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is a big, explosive wine loaded with dark fruit, smoke and licorice. It shows fabulous intensity in its rich expression of fruit. The Champeaux saw 100% new oak which will require bottle age to integrate. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. Arnaud Mortet told me he is working with less extraction and lower levels of new oak than his father used to employ. Mortet did 5 days of cold maceration followed by 20 or so days of fermentation with very light extraction. The malos finished between June and November 2010, on the late side for the vintage.
