Gevrey Chambertin, Champeaux, 1er Cru, 2012
Gloriously fragrant, expressive sweet red berry flavours, notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and kirsch with touches of cherry blossom. Incredibly seductive and enticing, there is a solid structure in place here yet the tannins are so fine and rounded that you barely notice them. From 70-year-old vines on the north side of the Gevrey appellation, a cooler terroir rather like En Champs with poor limestone soils.
critic reviews
(25% vendange entier): Bright, dark red. Brooding aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and stone. At once creamy and delineated, with the intense dark fruit and floral flavors boasting superb sappy inner-mouth lift. Spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate on the very long, lightly salty aftertaste. A great example of this premier cru, where the very old vines produced just 25 hectoliters per hectare in 2012.
