Gevrey Chambertin, Lavaux St Jacques, 1er Cru, 2017
Generous, silky-textured and very seductive. Flowing with suave damson and plum fruit, some small red berry notes adding freshness and focus. A ripe, caressing and frictionless structure holds this together. A fabulous Gevrey vineyard high up the slope next to Clos St. Jacques. Being due south facing yet benefitting from the cooling breezes from the Combe, the terroir is cool yet sun-blanched. Aged in 70% new oak, fermented without whole bunches.
critic reviews
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru matures in 75% new oak and 100% de-stemmed. It has a crisp and well-defined bouquet with black cherries, raspberry and rose petals that unfurls beautifully with time. The palate is medium-bodied with precise tannins, extremely detailed, not long in the mouth with surfeit freshness and tension, and a touch of white pepper on the finish. Sophisticated and classy.
