Gevrey Chambertin, Mes Cinq Terroirs, 2016
Thoroughly stylish Gevrey, generous and open-knit. Mouth-filling, smooth but precise flavours of plum, damson and forest berry. Juicy and caressing. Lots of character and clarity of flavour with a seductive cashmere texture. A blend of five villages parcels that Arnaud reinstigated in 2013, the sum being so much greater than its constituent parts. Aged in 30% new oak barrels. Frost affected 30% of the vineyard area for this cuvée so quantities are limited, unfortunately.
critic reviews
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes 5 Terroirs was glorious from barrel and that has clearly transferred into bottle. It has an extremely pure and delineated bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry, subtle tertiary and mineral scents that evoke Premier Cru quality. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is very well balanced with a lightly spiced opening. Beautiful weight here and supremely well integrated oak, this is a class act, one that is not stupidly priced either. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.
