Pommard, Les Cras, 2015
There is lots of character and stuffing to this but it is well in proportion at the same time. Crunchy, racy and vivid fruit flavours of red and black cherry with notes of raspberry. Bright and bursting with plenty of fruit to cover its solid foundations. A well-situated village plot on the Volnay side of the appellation that has deep clay soils with lots of iron and mineral deposits. Fermented with one third whole bunches and aged in 15% new oak.
critic reviews
(vinified with one-third whole clusters; aging in 15% new oak and not yet racked): Healthy bright red. Tart cherry and pomegranate aromas show a violet accent and a slightly medicinal licorice quality. A juicy, penetrating fruit bomb on the palate, conveying a rather cool aspect for the vintage. This intensely flavored wine is very Pommard in its early tightness, and its tannins are a touch dry. Sieve noted that these vines were hit hard by hail in 2013 and 2014 and frosted in 2016.
