Vosne-Romanée, Aux Malconsorts, 1er Cru, "Christianne", 2023
Dense, dark but very creamy. A totally different kettle-of-fish to De Montille’s other Malconsorts. Richer, darker and with complex spiciness. Certainly more depth but there is also sufficient lift to counteract the power. Less obvious initially, but the flavours of Asian spice, bramble and loganberry build with air. Very classy and serious. From a very special part of the Malconsort vineyard, a parcel that is the other side of the road to the main Malconsorts block, surrounded by the original part of La Tâche. Aged in a little more new oak than the classic Malconsorts and fermented with 100% whole bunches.

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts Cuvée Christiane 1er Cru has a little more opulence on the nose than the regular cuvée, very pure with incense and crushed iris flowers. Seductive and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly more candied entry, a lovely thread of acidity and touches of black truffle toward the finish. Gorgeous.
