95/100Neal Martin,Vinous
The 2011 Montrachet Grand Cru was a real surprise. Limpid in hue. This has a surprisingly rich, slightly honeyed (though certainly not pre-moxed) effervescent bouquet - white truffles, orange pith and pralines. There is real power, to the extent that you would imagine it comes from a far warmer summer. That is translated across onto the palate that has a slight viscosity. Quite decadent, bordering on extravagant, yet it channels all the power of this Grand Cru into a thoroughly enjoyable, multi-dimensional Montrachet that I am not 100% certain will actually yield more pleasure with further bottle age, as blasphemous as that sounds. Tasted at Maison de Colombier in Beaune.
