Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2010
From a perfectly situated plot on the highest part of the hill, very near the chateau. This plot of 1.37 hectares is composed of 60 years old vines. Broader and bigger than the Grands Echezeaux, deeply structured but still refined and well-defined ripe fruit flavours of plums, sweet spice, blueberry, griotte, kirsch with strong earth and mineral shades too. Powerful, expressive, layered and structured yet with a sensual side to it too and a long bright finish. A tour de force.

Good full medium red. Ripe aromas of raspberry, plum, redcurrant, Oriental spices, milk chocolate and nutty oak. The powerful, voluminous palate boasts a lovely balance of raspberry fruit sweetness and saline minerality. Manages to be both muscular and gentle owing to its seamless texture and breadth. The suavely tannic, very long finish stimulates the salivary glands. I'd like to see all of these wines with a bit less obvious new oak, but maybe that's quibbling.
